Writer & Director
While training at the London Film Academy Becky Preston worked as a stage manager in fringe theatre before working as a production assistant on a variety of features and shorts. She then began editing corporate videos before moving into assembly editing features. Her first short AVOWAL was a regional finalist for the Bafta 60 seconds of fame award and her second STAR, screened by the BBC. Her debut feature LOVELORN was privately financed and shot in locations across the UK and the Czech republic. The film garnered 29 awards and was released on DVD in 2012. Becky moved to Bristol, continuing editing in video games journalism, creating online content for Sony, Future Publishing and Yogscast. She was selected to join the regional Filmworks programme where she developed her next short THE IN-BETWEEN and is now working on her next feature, surreal rom-com LOVE, METAPHORICAL
Christine Cheung started her career at the BBC and co-founded Tread Softly Productions. She completed her first feature film LOVELORN, with writer/director Becky Preston. The film went on to win 29 international awards and released through FilmWorks Entertainment. Christine is an alumni of the BFI’s Think-Shoot-Distribute and EIFF’s Talent Lab. Her recent short, WOODHOUSE, won the Best of Boroughs Jury Award and premiered at the 67th BFI London Film Festival. She was mentored by Tristan Goligher on the NETWORK and currently developing a slate of features including a period horror, FALLING LEAVES, with Alex Barrett following his successful debut with ‘Life Just Is’. Becky Preston’s feature LOVE, METAPHORICAL, a surreal rom-com and her short THE IN-BETWEEN which has been developed under the BFI funded FilmWorks scheme. BY THE FIRE, a tense and thrilling sci-fi with LA based producer Justin Calen Chenn. The project was selected for London’s Micro Market alongside the PFM and highlighted as one of the screenplays to watch by the Black List.
